About us
The Georgia Transportation Efficiency Authority (GTEA) is a new agency resulting from the consolidation of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) and the Atlanta-region Transit Link Authority (ATL) per HB 297, that passed the General Assembly in the 2026 Session. This legislative change removed duplicative, regulatory dictates and repealed planning mandates, yielding in a streamlined authority with specific stewardship responsibilities of transportation investments. Per the statute and subsequent Executive Orders, the GTEA performs a limited but impactful set of functions previously carried out by its predecessor authorities, as follows.
- Reviews and acts on the metro Atlanta Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)
- Xpress Regional Commuter Bus System
- Designated Recipient of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Formula Funding for the Atlanta Urbanized Area
- Atlanta Region Allocation of the Transit Trust Fund (TTF)
- Metro Atlanta Developments of Regional Impact (DRI) Reviews for Transportation Impact
